Re-Learning to Dance in the Rain

Re-Learning to Dance in the Rain

Yesterday, while working outside,
A sudden rainstorm came,
The large drops battering me,
Interrupting my day.
I felt irritated,
My clothes! My hair!
I started to run inside,
My plans for the day dashed,
And then…
And then I remembered
When I was a little girl,
And playing in the rain was like Christmas,
Filled with joy and magic,
Splashing in puddles
An unexpected gift.
When did I let the years,
The responsibilities of adulthood,
Rob me of that childlike wonder?
The spontaneity?
What other precious things had I unknowingly lost?
I felt sadness settle over my heart,
Weighed down by the rigidity of age.
And then…
And then I remembered
When I was a little girl,
And playing in the rain was like Christmas,
And I lifted my face to the sky,
As the rain came down even harder.
I laughed as I spun around,
Filled with joy,
Remembering once again
How to dance in the rain.
