The Humorous Side of Meditation 

My brain during meditation makes me laugh…the jumble of random thoughts that pop up as I attempt to quiet my mind in my weeks old meditation practice. Come join me for a typical meditation…

I sit in my comfortable chair in the darkened room, my legs crossed, my hands at my knees. The meditation app on my phone chimes to begin ten minutes of meditation. 

I breathe in for eight slow counts, out for ten, repeat. I feel myself connecting to the universe, visualizing the golden light coming down and through me. 

“I wonder where we’re going to lunch today?”

Dammit!

See errant thoughts drifting like a leaf across a still lake…

“Did I pack enough underwear for Madrid? Oh, and I need to pick up some Drammamine…l…

Dammit!

I breathe in for eight slow counts, out for ten. 

“I breath in courage, I exhale fear.”

“I really need to trim my nails. Where did I leave the clippers? Were they…

Dammit!

See errant thoughts like a leaf floating across a still lake…

“If Sophie barks again I’m going to freaking scream!”

(Meditation app chimes….end of session). 

Dammit. 

….I guess that’s why meditation is called a “practice”. I’ll keep working.
