I open my eyes in morning light,
Another day begun.
My love sleeping next to me,
Dogs at our feet,
Their rumbling snores making me smile.
My heart swells with gratitude,
How did I ever deserve this-
This place of such love? Such peace?
I smile knowingly to myself…
I have paid my dues,
And would a thousand times over to be in this place with this man.
Each day another chance to remember our gifts,
To acknowledge where we have come from and rejoice in where we are going,
The long road of life.
Every single part of the journey precious,
An intricate puzzle that can only work with all of the pieces included.
And so I send up thanks for it all,
Every single piece.
