‘Twas All Hallows’ Eve

‘Twas All Hallows’ Eve and all through the house,

Every creature was stirring, except the dead mouse.

The spiders were hung by the chimney with care,

In hopes ghouls and goblins soon would be there.

With I in my witches hat and Dan in his mask,

On the sunporch we waited, prepared for our task.

With Snickers and Baby Ruth, but no Candy Corn,

We watched from the sunporch as terror was born.

On Zultan, on Gargoyle, on Zombie Grave Creeper,

Animatronics and ghosts, our graveyard’s no sleeper.

Tombstones and skeletons and odd talking creatures,

Mr. MacKenzie displays all the fun creepy features.

When what to our wondering eyes did we see, but several trick-or-treaters in costumes- such glee!

They came up the stairs and made such a clatter,

We laughed as the jumping spider made them all scatter.

With ‘oohs’ and ‘awws’ at their costumes so cute,

We filled plastic pumpkins with chocolatey loot.

As they descended the stairs giggling in the dim graveyard light,

We called, “Happy Halloween to all, on this dark, stormy night!”

(This came from a writing prompt, “It was a dark and stormy night,” from a wonderful creative group on Facebook that I belong to that includes creativity is all of its forms, The Crazy Ones. Checks us out!)
