I just saw the telltale flash of light,
Interrupting the warm darkness;
The first lightning bug of summer,
An omen of warm breezes and lazy days,
Lemonade and barbecue,
Freedom.
I am transported back to my childhood,
Capturing mason jars full of light
To stare in wonder at the magic held within.
You say firefly, I say lightning bug-
My Southern roots showing-
They both mean summer is here.
Glowing fairies
Bringing memories of carefree days
to the child in all of us.
I really enjoyed the imagery of this poem. It was very atmospheric! 🙂
Thanks so much – I appreciate that! ☺️
