Rain

A stressful day,

The weather foul,

My mood not much better.

I walk into my old house,

Creaking floors and crooked everything;

Gentle eyes and a wagging tail greet me, the flash of a crazy cat streaking by in her own greeting.

My husband has left the Christmas lights on, the beautiful tree filled with memories on every branch.

The fire roars peacefully, my tea steaming in its glow. Solitude and serenity.

The rain falls, sometimes gently, sometimes with conviction, confetti against the window panes.

I can’t remember any longer what stressed me so today;

Only thoughts of gratitude fill my mind this stormy night.
