Virtual Winter

The computer screen sputters to life,

the too-familiar chime a siren song

calling us all to gather in the ether,

ducks in a row.

Connection slow,

connection lost,

we clammer to connect

somehow, some way,

apart but together

but in reality alone,

desperately trying to be heard.

It seems there is no escape from this virtual winter,

its cold lips upon our cheeks

filled with nostalgia and regret.

Lean away from the icy embrace,

power down,

reach for the warmth of the fire of a real network,

before the error message comes;

password failed,

user unknown.
